These frames are handmade from reclaimed old growth redwood here in Ojai. They were cut, milled and assembled from a 6x6" post at our local Presbyterian church. Rather than discard the valuable asset, I turned them into frames for the wonderful mission tiles we have sold for decades. These frames have been glued and finish nailed, then hand sanded, but are NOT rock solid. Glueing a tile in them will strengthen the frame and secure the tile.
We recommend using Goop to attach the tile to the frame. These frames should accommodate ANY 6 frameIt is strong, water resistant and dries clear(ish) Apply no more than an 3/16" thick bead along surface of frame that tile will come in contact with. Search for Goop on our site and order it along with frame(s) and a tile or two. If the Goop gets on a visible surface it may discolor that surface so use caution to only put it where tile meets wood. But of course, a little extra character wont destroy the project, right!?!?
There is no hole in back to hang from because it is up to you to decide which side is up since these ars all slightly different with knot holes, chips, cracks and lag bolt holes in various places. Not all have these "additions" so if you want, or do not want, some extra character please specify in the notes of your order. Or of course you can call us at 805-646-1441 and speak to someone in giftware and we can describe what we see in real time.
The tiles can be hung on a nail, screw or whatever you want since there is a gap between tile and frame that you can use. You can of course drill a hole in the back if that will make you feel better. And to that point, you can screw or nail through the outer frame to make it able to withstand hurricane winds if that blows your skirt up.
